1st Day of School

My big 1st grader!!
(And baby sister!).
Julia and her friend Lexi.

Nicolas, Andrew and Ryan.

And they are off!
(sniff!)

I asked Julia what we are going to do all day while the kids are in school.
Play Barbies and watch movies is apparently at the top of her agenda.

Last Day of School!

This BIG kid, is now officially a FIRST GRADER!!

When he came home, we got to work cleaning out his backpack...THIS "treasure" he insisted on keeping and looked at me like I had two heads when I was trying to throw it away.  He promises me that these are his "important" things.

And somehow the putting away of the supplies turned into crafting time...this is maybe NOT the way to start out summer break.  Clean house = messy house. This transformation happens very quickly!

Which somehow evolved into Ry fixing Julia's hair.  It's not as sweet as it seems..he is trying to make her look like a monster.  Don't think my 6 yr old boy would be giving her princess treatment or anything! =)

Recently, a kind neighbor gave us this train track from her childhood.  Glam and Papa came by and we visited our local hobby store for some supplies to see if we could get it up and running.  Ryan is in HEAVEN.  His train "phase" maybe not such a phase...it's thus far truly been a lifelong hobby! Daddy and Papa are having fun with this new set too.  I am wondering how many train sets we'll need to collect before the madness all ends!

Ry's First Teeball Game

Ry had his first teeball game today, and quite the crowd showed up to cheer for our little man!

His first hit...a base hit!
(And the crowd went wild!)

Run to first!!!

And he scores!!

After the game, we enjoyed some ice cream--much needed on this HOT day!

Rock Wall Climbing!

Ry has been asking to climb the rock wall at the Y for several months now.
Tonight was the big night!
He LOVED it!
I am super-thankful for the harness!
I had to try it out tonight also...made it all the way to the top, which wasn't tough...but the getting down was the scary part!! I can't BELIEVE my baby likes this so much!

Arch.

This weekend we took a little family "staycation" to the St. Louis Arch. As in national park, not to be confused with the golden arches we normally frequent. =)
The kids hadn't ever been to the top, but it is obviously one of those landmarks every time we cross the river which they are so curiously interested.

The princess views the east side from the top and checks out the Muddy Mississippi.
On a side note, she wore this getup nearly all weekend.
On the plus side, I wasn't too worried about losing her...follow the trail of pink feathers.

And the west, downtown view.
Newish Busch Stadium to the left.

Kindergarten, Day 1

Despite the earlier confusion, Ry made it on the right bus.
And to the school where he excitedly jumped off!
And he managed to find his locker and fantastic teacher.
And the three buddies made the bus ride home. Ry jumped off and said, "That was a great bumpy ride! Let's do it again!!"

Prelude to Kindergarten

1:30ish am - Irresponsibly, Jeff and I head to bed.
3:22 am - Ryan enters our room and tells me his eyes won't shut because he is SOOO excited to get to go to kindergarten. I walk him back to his own bed.
4:36 am - Ryan comes back to our room again and tells me he has been trying VERY hard but his eyes just will NOT shut because he is too excited. I go lay in his room with him.
5:19 am - Ryan asks me to rub his back to help him sleep. I am a very desperate woman at this point.
5:45 am - Julia screams "Mommy" from her room. I quietly exit my (sleeping!!?!) boys room and go snatch her out of her crib and deposit her in our bed by daddy...who has somehow (!!?!!!) managed to sleep through all the chaos.
5:50 am - I very deliriously take up camp downstairs on the couch. I say deliriously, because I really wasn't thinking straight at this point. I am not kidding - when I looked at the clock it actually crossed my mind that maybe I should just head to the Y at this point because at least I could snag a workout.
6something am - Julia and Jeff come downstairs. I pretend to be asleep. He immediately puts on the Cinderella DVD for her. I open my eyes, and he gives me a desperate "WHY is she up at this hour?!" look. I shrug, and head up to our now empty bed.
7:15 am - My alarm clock goes off. I hit snooze several times.
7:45 am - I jump in the shower.
8:20 am - Struggle to wake up our deeply sleeping kindergartener. I dress him while he is still in an unconscious state. Jeff jumps in shower.
8:30 am - The excited grandma's arrive to watch our little guy board the school bus. They get Ry breakfast and get Julia dressed.
8:40 - We walk outside to wait for the bus.

Can you tell no one really slept last night!?!

For the record, this is NOT his bus.  It did come at nearly the same time his is scheduled to arrive.  And thank goodness lack of sleep didn't affect him as it did his momma, because I nearly put him on here.  He was saying "Mom, these kids look really old! They don't look like my friends!"  Whoops..a quick check with the bus driver revealed I was sending him to the junior high. I mean, I know he's very smart and all...hehe.

More on day #1 tomorrow... really really too tired to keep going on this post! =)

Kindergarten Registration

Today I signed this little boy up for kindergarten...
...all the while he hung on to my leg and said,
"I don't want to go to school. I just want to stay
home and play games with you!"

Skating

Mondays Ryan has tennis and Julia has gymnastics.
Because I am crazy, I signed them both up for something on a Monday morning.
Because everyone likes to get up and moving after the weekend, right?
Ok, just because I really want him to play tennis.
Since we were already at the Y, we walked over to the open skate session.
Looking good, huh?
For a minute.
(That might be stretching it.)
Going...
down!
And he's finished with this activity.
Total time to put on skates less than time spent on rink.

Tennis and Gymnastics

Ok, so it might just be possible I have been waiting for this moment for the last 4 1/2 years! Ryan (and his friend Izzy) took their first tennis lesson today!
We'll just say we are a LONG way from Wimbledon...but some serious potential here. =)
And Julia took her first gymnastics class today! (Ok..confession, her first class in general! Poor second child has been dragged along to Ry's stuff, but this was the first thing I actually signed her up for!) See her face? All day I would say to her, "Julia, you are so cute!" and she would say "NO, I AM NOT!!"

Our soccer star...

Today Ry had his first soccer game!
When we first arrived, he ran off the field and said, "Mommy, no one on my team knows me!" I pointed out his friend Charlie, and he smiled big and ran back on the field. Here's a pic of the buddies!
My handsome little man...

Go, Ryan!!

...and his fans!

Daddy and Grandma keep warm. The temp was predicted to be near 70, but it was so windy it sure didn't feel like that!
Aunt Amy, Papa, Uncle Jeff and Grandma cheer our little guy on!
Uncle Brian, Aunt Krista and Tyler arrive after their trip to see the Easter Bunny!

Lucas gets the award for "most excited" fan!
Thanks for coming!

The Greatest Show On Earth! Circus time.

Tonight our family had a great time going to the circus! We ended up having amazing seats (12th row center circle!) and the kids both thought the whole thing was fantastic.

These brothers did some pretty amazing stunts, including riding unicycles across these ropes.
And another favorite, the zebras!
These gymnasts worried little Julia. She kept pointing to them saying "Get down! Get down!" as if she were protecting them from an accident waiting to happen.
This was one of my favorite acts (although the pics just do not do it justice!). The guys on the left jumped on the board and the guy on the right was tossed up in the air, did a flip and landed on the stack of guys to the far right. They did several variations of this, including one that was 5 men tall! It was really unbelievable!
The tiger act was pretty amazing. Ry thought it was cool that one of the tigers wasn't listening and started a cat fight, so he was sent back to his cage during the performance.
The elephants were probably Julia's favorite.
Julia is intrigued by those elephants! She even stopped eating her pretzel when they came out!
Ry's sweet little face looked like this most every time I looked over at him. This for sure will need to become a yearly outing for our family!
