Kid Chatter

Ry: Julia. You know what?
Jul: No. Tell me.
Ry: When I get older, my name is going to be Daddy.

Ry: Mom, when you get to be lots of numbers old you will die?
Me: Yup. But don't worry...that will hopefully be a very long time from now.
Ry: Yeah. You will sell the house and move to heaven.
Jul: Mom!!! I will miss you when you are dead!

China?

Ry (looking closely at a ball): Daddy, what does this say?
Jeff: Made in China.
Ry: Oh..China! Is that like where God lives?
Jeff: No, God lives in heaven.
Ry: But he lives where there are a lot of tall buildings.

I am not sure where he got this idea, but I'm wondering if it's because one of his favorite songs is "Big House" and he's taking it quite literally..?

Chorus:
Come and go with me to my father's house.
Come and go with me to my father's house.
It's a big, big house with lots and lots of rooms.
A big big table with lots and lots of food.
A big, big yard where we can play football.
A big, big house it's my father's house.

The Trade

Ry: Mom, let's trade her for two boys.
Me: What? You want to trade Julia?
Ry: Yeah, let's trade her for Andrew and his brother. Because his mommy has two boys. And then I could play with Andrew all the days.
Me: We can't trade your sister for the neighbor boys!!
Ry: Why not? Sure we can!

Kid Chatter

Ry: Daddy, is that coffeechino you are drinking?

Julia: Ry, my picture is more better than yours.
Ryan: Julia, we don't say things like that.
Julia: Uhhuh, my picture is more better than yours, Ry!
Ryan: Julia, no we don't say things like that.
Julia: Look, mine is more better than yours.
Ryan: Julia, I'm not inviting you to my birthday party!
(his birthday is not until December!)

Julia: Mommy, I want this lipstickie.
Me: Julia, we have plenty of lipstick at home, put that back on the shelf, please.
Julia sticks it in her pocket.
Me: Julia, take that lipstick out of your pocket and back on the shelf. You can't just take that without buying it...or else...
Ry: Or else God will strike you down and you will die?
Me: Um...not exactly.

Kid Chatter

This morning, Ry and Julia were playing "school". Ry was helping Julia pack her backpack, and as he was helping her put a doll in, he said: "Julia, this is for ho and tell."

Baby Jesus loves Halloween

Ryan: Mommy, was Jesus cold?
Me: You mean when he was born?
Ryan: Yeah.
Me: Well, I am sure his Momma wrapped him up in blankets. And remember, she put him in the hay?
Julia: Yeah. And Jesus he loves Halloween. It is his birthday!

The Puppy Man

When this guy pulled up this morning
to drop off a box, the kids ran to the
door saying, "The puppy man is here!"
Understandably, to nonreaders. =)

Grandma's Favorite Quote

My grandparents LOVE seeing the kids, and if a week goes by they miss them and are calling to see when we can get together. This morning we drove to their house, and the kids were entertained when Grandma gave them each a fly swatter to kill sweat bees in her backyard that continued landing on their lawn chairs.

Later in our visit, Ry had scratched a scab off his leg and it started to bleed. Grandma brought him inside to get him cleaned up and a band-aid. She tells me as she was wiping his leg off, he was looking intently at her and the following ensued:

Ry: Grandma, you are handsome!
Grandma: What?
Ry: Yeah, you are so cute!

She tells me this made her day, year, century...

Isn't it so sweet how Ry sees beauty at the age of 4? It's not as the world defines beauty. But she was serving him, and in that moment, he was stuck with her beauty-or handsomeness! =)

Cinderella Convo

Julia (calling out): Cinderella!
Ryan: Silly goose, she is far away.
Julia: No, she's not! Cinderella!
Ryan: She lives very far away. Her house is far away. She can't hear you.
Julia: Yes! She is here!!

And tonight at dinner last night:
Me: Julia, are you my cutie putootie?
Julia: No, I'm daddy's baby.

Growing Up

My boy is growing up. He is starting to ask more thought provoking questions. You know, the kind that you can't answer while multi-tasking. Here are some recent inquiries/comments he posed to me:

Ry: Mommy, where does poop come from?

Ry (on the UPS guy): Mom, that guy who delivers the boxes just came by and he didn't stop to give us a box today. Why didn't he give us a box?

Ry (on his last day of preschool): Oh no! I forgot to tell Gavin that we were going to change classes for next year!

Ry (after I told him he needed to come inside for not following the rules): Ok, Mommy. I will be a better listener next time.

Ry: What'cha doing?
Me: Shaving my legs. Mommies like to take the hair off their legs.
Ry: Oh. But not daddies?
Me: No, not daddies or boys.
Ry: Oh, just you and Julia I guess.

Ry: Mommy, why are we driving so SLOW?
Me: There is a policeman behind me, and I don't want to get in trouble for speeding.
Ry: Yeah, because he will take you to jail!

Ry (after putting on a shirt that was getting tight): I am getting to be a really big daddy almost!

Kid Chatter and Softball

Me: Julia, you are such a big girl!
Julia: No, Mommy. I am the baby!

Me: Julia, you are my favorite girl!
Julia: No, I am Daddy's girl!
Me: What? No, you are my girl!
Julia: No, I am Daddy's girl!
[It is this point I need to teach her that since she said this in the presence of her father she may now ask for nearly ANYTHING she would like and the result will be very positive for her.]

Glammie: Ryan, are you excited to go to the beach this summer?
Ry: Yea, and Tyler is going to come too. But not Lucas, because he will eat the sand.

I walk in Julia's room in the morning to get her out of her crib and the following convo takes place:
Julia (pointing): Daddy did it!
Me: Daddy did what?
Julia: Daddy did IT! (As if IT was something horribly major).
Me: He turned on the fan?
Julia: Yea (BIG pout!), Daddy did it!
----------------------------------
Softball season is back! The troops turned out tonight for the big game...Lucas has the most comfy seat in the stands! =)
Tyler plays on the equipment which the kiddos love, but it sure makes it difficult for us moms to actually watch any of the game!

Uncle Mat ordered a special shirt for Ryan (same number as Jeff's shirt) to sport to the games.

Say What?!

Since becoming a mom, I have realized we talk much more freely about bodily functions around here. In fact, sometimes I stop and just think "huh? how did we get to here?" Today was one of those days!

When changing Julia's diaper, I said "Julia, do you have diarrea?" because her diaper looked a bit runny. "Dia-rea?" she asked me? "Yup, Jules, that is what I said." Well, she took to the word..."Dia-Reeaa, dia-Reea!" And then continued running around singing her new word for the next hour! Nice!

---------------

For the past few days, Ryan seems to have a small obsession with spitting. Spitting out his drink with a friend and laughing. (not funny). Spitting like crazy when we brush his teeth into the sink. And today I looked over and noticed he was sittingnext to Katy, her back was all wet, and he was wiping his mouth.
"Ry, did you throw up?"
"No."
"Ry, that is disgusting, we do NOT spit in this house. It is rude and disrespectful! Go to time-out RIGHT NOW!"

Then, from the time out chair I hear, "I DON'T CARE!"

Ohhhhh...well, lesson #1 in what not to tell your momma!

So I say "WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY?"
and he says, "I DON'T CARE!" while in unision Julia says, "Ry said 'I don't care!'"
While I stood there in total shock, Julia walked up to the time out chair, pointed her little finger at him shaking it saying, "Ry, Ry, you are in time out!"
Then she walked away and I can almost swear she rolled her eyes!

---------------------------------------

On the way to school this morning, Ryan was naming all the boys in his class he was going to play with. "Charlie, and Gavin and Alex and Cole."
And I said, "Ry, do you ever play with any of the girls in your class?"
And he said, "Yeah, I play with Izzy. But not Ellery. She is mean! She hit me, and I hit her back. I will get her. Bamm. Bamm. Bamm!"
And before I can intercept here, he continues on, "And if I see her at church, I will get her! I will hit her, and I will kill her!"
I decide to jump in here! "Ryan, that isn't nice! Hitting is not nice! And Jesus tells us not to kill!"
Ry gets quiet and then says, "Where?"
"In the Bible!"
Defeated, he says, "Oh. Ok."

Anyone want to visit church with us? We promise not to kill ya! =)

My Favorite People

Aunt Kathy and Great Papa sent the kids Easter cards with gift cards to their favorite place EVER to eat = MacDonalds. (And maybe secretly one of mine...I mean, who can turn down those fries without some MAJOR willpower?!) We decided to bring the kids there for dinner earlier this week and let them run around and play. Jeff was encouraging Julia to climb up in the play area, and asked Ryan to help her. As he climbed in the tunnel after her, we could hear him telling her: "Don't be scared, Jew-e-a. Just pray to Jesus and you won't be scared." Apparently, her faith faltered when she got to the VERY top of the playland and had to be rescued by momma. =)

The best part

This morning the kids were playing in the family room and I noticed that things got very quiet. Any mom knows this can be cause for concern! I peeked in the room to find the kids huddled over our wedding album. Ryan was pointing to pictures and talking to Julia about them. It was super sweet. Then as he is turning the page, he tells her "The best part is coming up!" I, of course, am thinking he's getting to the 'you may now kiss the bride' photo, but next he says, "Look at this cake!!" And then he tells her, "Isn't it great? That is one BIG cake!" To which she responds, "Ohhh. Cake." And then he points to another picture and says, "See, it is like a tall tower!"
Then he says, "You want to see some of RyRy's books?" And she says "Uhhuh!" while he proceeds to pull out his two crammed full scrapbooks. And then, the question comes which no mother who is over two year behind in scrapping ever wants to hear from her 2 year old, "Where are my books?" Eek!!

Part of my purpose and dedication to this blog is to serve as an online scrapbook for the kids. It completely relieved my guilt about being so far behind, knowing if I ever do get around to catching back up, the blog will help me remember what happened when, journaling, and so forth. Until today.

Toe Painting and Reading

Ryan: Mommy, I want my toes to be pink like yours.
Me: Well, Ry, usually boys don't paint their toes. Just girls.
Ryan: Well, I am a girl!
Me: No, you are a boy. Just like Daddy. And boys don't usually paint their toes. But if you want to try it out and see, I can show you what it is like and maybe we can paint one of your toes.
Ry: But I am a girl!
Me: No, Ry. God made you a perfect boy!
Ryan: Mommy, when Julia gets bigger she is going to get a penis, too!

Julia loves to do nearly everything that Ryan does. Our little copy-cat saw big bro sitting around reading books today and she plopped down next to him. She proceeded to pick up about every book in his stack, open it to the last page, and say proudly, "The end!"

Kid Chatter

Ryan: (blows in Julia's hair and laughs when it moves)
Julia: (blows back at Ryan and laughs)
Ryan: No, Julia, you can't blow in my hair.
Julia: Yes!
Ryan: No, Julia. It is too tiny to move.

Julia: I'm sorry, Ry Ry.
Ryan: You're welcome!

Ry(with hiccups): Those silly hiccups, they are always causing trouble!

Ry(as we drive by a house that has obviously had a fire!): Mommy, that house is broken!

Ry: Mommy, I didn't poop at school today. I only like to go at home. [WHAT?!?!]

Ry: I was married to a girl. I can't remember her name.
Me: Really? You were married?
Ry: Yeah, and I am a prince!

Ry: Julia (pronounced Jew-ee-aa), I had a dream about spider webs!
Julia: Yaaa.
Ry: Yes, it was very scary!
Julia: Yaaa.

Bob the Builder

Here is a conversation I had with the kids this morning.

Me to kids: A guy is going to be coming over in just a bit to fix our front door.
Ryan: Oh, Handy Manny?
Me: Um, no. Actually, his name is Bob.
(And I don't know how I didn't think ahead to realize this was coming...)
Ryan (very excited!): Oh, YEA! Bob the Builder is coming to our house?!?!
Me: Ohhhh, well, not THAT Bob you are thinking of, Ry. A different Bob.
Ry (clearly disappointed): Ohhhh.

Kid Chatter

Ryan: Mommy, I didn't like that glue stick last night.
Me: That glue stick?
Ryan: Yes.
Me: Ry, we painted last night, but we did not use glue.
Ryan: Yes, Mommy! That glue stick you used!
Me: Ry, I used a paint brush!!!?
Ryan: No, the glue stick you used on my lips!
Me: Ohhhh, you mean the chapstick?!
(Ryan's lips have been very chapped this winter and it doesn't help he's constantly trying to lick them, so I tried to put some chapstick on his lips right before bedtime!)

Julia (waddling over to me): Mommy, I pooped!
Me: Julia, do you need a new diaper?
Julia: Yea. (she grabs my finger and pulls me over to our changing area).
Me: Ohhhh! (yuck!)
Julia: Ohhhh, no!! Ohhh, no! It's ok, Mommy! I take bath?

Both my kids LOVE warm milk. I made the mistake (twice!) with spoiling them this way, and this is a habit I don't see we'll be breaking anytime soon...it started when they were both babies, and they are just as interested as that first day! In fact, they won't drink cold milk...unless it is chocolate. Surprise, huh?
Ryan tells me: Heat it three times, Mommy! Three times!
(I have no idea why three is the magic number?!).

Ryan (putting on a pair of high heels): I am big now, Mommy!
